Baseball fans traveling in the Western U.S. can catch spring training games by many popular teams in Arizona. Tickets usually start around $10, making it a cheap day out.
While most Major League Baseball (MLB) teams conduct spring training in Florida, twelve teams have set up home base in the drier climate of Arizona. Tickets to these games are usually very affordable, starting as low as $4 a seat, making them perfect ways to entertain a sports fan traveling on a budget. Even adding in the cost of a hot dog and beer can make a game a great deal for any baseball fan. Several nights are also special games, with either giveaways or exhibition games against international teams from places like Australia or Europe. Here’s a listing of Cactus League teams (named so due to the Arizona location) and where they play their home games during the spring: Arizona DiamondbacksLocation: Tucson Electric Park, Tucson, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $5 to $25 More Information: 866.672.1343 Chicago CubsLocation: HoHoKam Stadium, Mesa, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $7 to $26 More Information: 480.964.4467 Chicago White SoxLocation: Camelback Ranch, Glendale, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $8 to $45 More Information: 623.877.8585 Cleveland IndiansLocation: Goodyear Ballpark, Goodyear, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $8 to $35 More Information: 623.882.3130 Colorado RockiesLocation: Hi Corbett Field, Tucson, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $4 to $17 More Information: 800.388.7625 Kansas City RoyalsLocation: Surprise Stadium, Surprise, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $7 to $23 More Information: 480.784.4444 Los Angeles Angels of AnaheimLocation: Tempe Diablo Stadium, Tempe, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $6 to $28 More Information: 480.350.5205 Los Angeles DodgersLocation: Camelback Ranch, Glendale, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $8 to $40 More Information: 623.877.8585 Milwaukee BrewersLocation: Maryvale Baseball Park, Phoenix, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $8 to $21 More Information: 623.245.5555 Oakland A’sLocation: Phoenix Municipal Stadium, Phoenix, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $6 to $34 More Information: 602.392.0074 San Diego PadresLocation: Peoria Sports Complex, Peoria, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $6 to $23 More Information: 623.773.8700 San Francisco GiantsLocation: Scottsdale Stadium, Scottsdale, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $8 to $28 More Information: 480.312.2580 Seattle MarinersLocation: Peoria Sports Complex, Peoria, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $6 to $23 More Information: 623.773.8700 Texas RangersLocation: Surprise Stadium, Surprise, AZ 2009 Ticket Prices: $7 to $23 More Information: 480.784.4444 * * * * * * * * * * The lowest ticket prices are generally for lawn seats, with the highest prices being the prime viewing seats. Not only are the Cactus League teams inexpensive to watch during their spring training, but since most of the stadiums are within an hour or two drive of each other, baseball fans can take in several games without a lot of effort or money. In fact, several teams share the same training location. The 2009 spring training season for most of these teams runs from the end of February to the beginning of April.
