Hollywood can be an expensive place to spend a night out on the town. Here are some great suggestions for adults that won't break the bank.

Rooftop pool parties and hotspot celebrity nightspots are not only extremely difficult to get into, but very expensive, as well. So why stress out the brain or pocketbook?

Choose from any of these fun suggestions for an inexpensive night out that won’t give the traveling budget any morning after regrets:

Laugh It Up Hollywood Style

Catch a night of comedy at the IO West Theater (6366 Hollywood Blvd; 323-962-7560) for an average $10 or less cover charge (some shows are even free!). Highly recommended is The Armando Show on Monday nights, where the cast of revolving guests includes the likes of Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows and Drew Carey joining in on the improv shenanigans.

Prefer more traditional stand-up? Try the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club (at Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk; 818-824-6545), owned by the popular former Saturday Night Live comedian. Tickets range from $10 to $20 a night and Lovitz himself performs every Wednesday.

The Laugh Factory (8001 W. Sunset Blvd; 323-656-1336) has a revolving line-up of stand-up for $20, with most nights featuring five or more comics.

Go Clubbing or Play Rockstar

Hollywood has its share of nightclubs with overpriced cover charges, long lines and drinks priced at $15 or more. But there are still plenty of places to party all night without using up the entire budget.

Try Cinespace (6356 Hollywood Blvd; 323-817-3456), which offers different theme club nights, some with cover as low as $10. The Beauty Bar (1638 N Cahuenga Blvd; 464-7676) has a revolving calendar of events from DJs to live bands, with most nights either free or $5 cover to get in.

L’Scorpion (6679 Hollywood Blvd; 323-464-3026) is a great Mexican restaurant that on Sunday nights offers 50% off all drinks and on Mondays hosts a karaoke night with drink specials. La Cantina (6541 Hollywood Blvd; 323-871-1363) offers $5 margaritas on Mondays, and happy hour specials from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Like dueling piano bars? Try Howl at the Moon (at Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk; 818-755-9970), which offers nightly drink specials and $5 or less cover before 8 p.m. Also at CityWalk is Rumba Room (818-622-1222), a Latin-themed dance club with half-priced cover before 10pm and free salsa lessons on weekends.

See a Movie Sans Kids

The legendary ArcLight Cinemas (6360 W. Sunset Blvd; 323-464-4226) offers several shows a month that are 21+ only. That means no kids are allowed in to see that showing of the movie. Tickets average $15 a ticket and there are often special presentations with question-and-answer sessions by those involved with the film. The theater also serves alcohol and food for an additional fee and it’s not uncommon to find a celebrity sharing the same row of seats.

Enjoy Some Live Music

A wide variety of local and nationally-known musicians play the many stages at Hotel Café (1623 1/2 N Cahuenga Blvd; 323-461-2040), where there’s usually at least one show priced at $15 or less a ticket. The Knitting Factory (7021 Hollywood Blvd; 323-463-0204) tends to book a varied line-up of eclectic music, as well, with most cover charges running $15 or less.

A bit further up in the Hollywood hills, the Hollywood Bowl (2301 North Highland Ave; 323-850-2000) is home to everything from touring rock musicians to orchestral nights. Ticket prices vary according to the performance, but most shows do have select seats for $20 or less. Parking is limited for many shows, though, so it’s easier to take one of the free shuttles.

Most of these suggestions are aimed at the adult budget traveler, and some, due to availability of alcohol, are 21+ and over only events, while others are perfect for anyone 18 and over.

But all are fun, and best of all, very affordable ways to spend an evening out in Hollywood.
