Explore Dublin with Free PodcastsDownload Audio Guides of Ireland’s Capital City at No Cost
Often the best way to explore a European city is on foot and Dublin, Ireland, is no exception. It's even easy to do with iWalk Dublin free audio tours.
Founded as a Viking settlement around 841 A.D., Dublin is Ireland’s capital city, as well as one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. It maintains a balance between old-world charm and contemporary culture. This makes it a perfect city to explore on foot. But with centuries of history, where does one start? And more importantly, where should one go? Enter iWalk Dublin podcasts. What are iWalk Dublin podcasts?iWalk Dublin is a series of free walking tours that are produced by the Dublin Tourist Board to encourage visitors to the city to explore all that Dublin has to offer. Each tour is available for download as a mp3 podcast narrated by city historian, author and artist, Pat Liddy. Each iWalk Dublin tour also comes with a free companion brochure (in a .pdf file) featuring maps of the tour and illustrations by Liddy, so one can visualize each itinerary, as well. What Tours Does iWalk Dublin Offer?iWalk Dublin currently offers twelve different walking tours of Ireland’s capital. Among the dozen offerings is a tour of 18th century Georgian Dublin (which includes Trinity College, the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, the Oscar Wilde Memorial, and St. Ann’s Church) and a Castles and Cathedrals tour (stops include Dublin Castle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral). For a longer tour that goes outside the city center, try the Portmarnock to Malahide iWalk, which starts at Portmarnock Bridge and passes The Old Garden Wall and The Velvet Beach before ending at Malahide Castle. Two of the most popular tours feature one of Dublin’s biggest and most famous exports: Guinness beer. The first tour is a narrative of how Guinness fits in with the history of the city. It begins near Trinity College and ends near St. James Gate, at the Guinness Storehouse. The second walking tour features the brewery itself, though there is a charge to enter the brewery that is separate from the iWalk tour. Both parts of this particular tour are also available in French, Italian, German and Spanish. How to Download iWalk Dublin PodcastsThe full list of available tours is available at the Dublin Tourist Board’s iWalk Dublin webpage. Tours can be downloaded in mp3 format, suitable for any portable audio file player. The companion maps and text are available for download in a separate .pdf file on the same page. The iWalk Dublin site also offers a subscription service that will automatically download any future audio walking tour directly to your iTunes account
